5 Things You Should Know Today - Dec. 19, 2011

Farmington city council has a big agenda to cover tonight.

Even with less than two weeks left in the year, we've got a full line-up of events and other things you should know today:

1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts a 40 percent chance of rain today with a temperature holding steady at around 39 and winds gusting as high as 20 mph. Look for the rain to clear out tonight, as the mercury drops into the upper 20s. 

2. No change in garbage pick-up 

Because both Christmas and New Year's Days fall on Sunday, there will be no change in trash collection over the holidays in Farmington and Farmington Hills. Remember – no cards or wrapping paper with metallics or glitter can go into your recycling bin.

3. Farmington city council meeting

Farmington city officials will hold a 6 p.m. study session today at , to meet with State Sen. Vincent Gregory (D-14th District) and Detroit city council member Gary Brown. Their 7 p.m. agenda includes discussions of the city audit, Downtown Development Authority issues, Grand River Corridor Improvement Authority, construction projects and other items. Parents are invited to bring their little ones to this event at 10 a.m. In addition to free time for the children, adults will have an opportunity to socialize. There's no charge for this event.
