5 Things You Should Know Today - Dec. 21, 2011

Wondering what to do with the kids when winter break starts?

It's the last week before local students start their winter break, and there are plenty of activities ahead:

1. The weather

There's an 80 percent chance of rain today, but skies will clear tonight, the National Weather Service predicts. Look for a high of 41 and a low of 33.

Adults 50 and better can drop by the today at 9:30 a.m. for a class designed to decrease pain and increase flexibility through a series of gentle movements. Bring a mat and a towel; cost is $4 for residents, $5 for non-residents.

This talented group of young people, under the direction of Brian Christian, will perform "Believe," "Keep Holding On," "Polar Express," "Carol of the Bells" and a variety of holiday favorites Thursday, 7:30 p.m., at the in Farmington Hills. Tickets are $5, children under age 3 are admitted free of charge.

Vendors at the Old Winery Winter Market on Grand River will host a special Friday night market from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., with many of the regular Saturday vendors and a few specially invited to expand your last minute holiday shopping choices. For more information, visit theoldwinerymarket.com

5. Look ahead: How to Train Your Dragon

The Men's Club of will sponsor a family movie night on Saturday that features How to Train Your Dragon or The Frisco Kid for those ages 13 and older. Snacks and fun will be provided, and there's no charge if you RSVP by Dec. 22. Call 248-851-5100.
