Today marks an important military anniversary.

Among other things, today is the 70th anniversary of the "day that will live in infamy":

2. Pearl Harbor anniversary

Hard to believe, but 70 years ago today, more than 2,300 Americans died when Japan attacked the U.S. Naval Base at Pearl Harbor, in what was then the territory of Hawaii. The attack led the U.S. Congress to declare war on Japan and enter World War II, according to information provided on the the Library of Congress American Memory website.
