The week is flying by as we head toward the end of 2011, and we may just have some snow on the ground to start the new year. Here's what else you should know today:
1. The weather
There's a 60 percent chance of rain and snow showers today, with a high around 37. The National Weather Service predicts a 30 percent chance the precip will continue tonight, when the temperature hovers around 34 degrees.
2. Salvation Army kettles at Kroger
If you're headed out to Kroger stores today, keep an eye out for the bell ringers and their collection kettles. raise funds for local programs serving families in need in 2012.

3. No change in garbage collection
Just a reminder, there's no change in the garbage/recycling collection schedule in Farmington and Farmington Hills this week, because the New Year's Day holiday falls on Sunday.

Market master Jean Smith says the market will be open Saturday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., so that customers can pick up supplies for their New Year's celebrations.
