5 Things You Should Know Today - Feb. 13, 2012

A health and wellness fair tonight offers information about fitness, food allergies and more.

There's more snow in the forecast today, but not until after midnight, so it won't interfere with today's activities: 

1. The weather

The sun will shine today as the temperature climbs to around 32 degrees, but the National Weather Service predicts snow after midnight. Less than an inch of accumulation is expected, and tonight's low should hover around 25.

The Farmington PTA Council invites the community to this event, held at 7 p.m. today at in Farmington Hills. Topics will include fitness, manging stress, identifying and preventing student drug and alcohol use, food allergies and nutrition. Admission is free.

3. Farmington Hills city council meeting

Officials will hold a study session in the community room at 6 p.m. today to discuss the possibility of locating a dog park on the former William Grace Elementary School site, as well as changes to the city's solicitor ordinance. Their 7:30 p.m. agenda in council chambers is packed with items that include changes to and amendments to ordinances regarding solicitors and . The full agenda is attached to this post. 

4. Look ahead:

Oakland County Commissioner William Dwyer (R-14th District) will meet with seniors at the on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. He'll talk about what's going on in Oakland County government and answer questions. The public is welcome.

5. Look ahead:  

Call 248-473-1800 today to register for this walk through in Farmington Hills at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow, for adults (ages 18 and older). Stroll hand in hand down the trails, and enjoy hot drinks and treats at the afterwards. There's no charge.
