5 Things You Should Know Today - Feb. 14, 2012

Expect less than an inch of snow to fall before noon today in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

The sun probably won't shine on Farmington and Farmington Hills, but don't let that stop you from enjoying this Valentine's Day. There's just too much going on: 

1. The weather

Snow is likely this morning, but not much of it. The National Weather Service predicts no more than a half-inch will fall before noon. Look for a high today of 35, and a low tonight of 28, under cloudy skies.

Grandparents are invited to join a conversation and meet other grandparents as psychologists Suzanne Unger and Michael Forster discuss key points of Yardsticks, a reference book by Chip Wood, at 6:30 p.m. today in the Ten Mile Building in Farmington. 4. Look ahead:

The Orchestras are sponsoring a "Silent Auction Concert" Wednesday. Doors open at 6 p.m. for the auction, and the concert will follow at 7:30 p.m. Proceeds will be used for clinician fees and instructional resources. Admission is free to the auction and the concert.

Julie Ogg from Oakland County Great Parents will speak Wednesday at the on the importance of play and the “academic” benefits to a child. She will suggest play-based activities, and offer guidelines for outdoor play in the winter during the 7 p.m. event. There's no charge, but you must register by calling 248-848-4315.
