5 Things You Should Know Today - Feb. 22, 2012

Enjoy a picnic at the Farmington branch library tonight.

This may be the middle of winter, but you can still enjoy a picnic at the library tonight. Here's what else you should know today:

1. The weather

There's a 20 percent chance for snow today, before 8 a.m., and 50 percent chance for rain tonight. The National Weather Service predicts a high around 44 and a low tonight around 30.

2. Skate with Elmo this morning

Children ages 7 and under are welcome to come out and skate with their furry red friend at BonaVenture Family Skating Center. Children may bring plush toys and strollers, but no toys with pedals. Parents admission is free with a child's admission, and skate rental for parents is extra.

3. Picnic and movie at the library

The Farmington Community Library Farmington branch invites families to bring a picnic blanket and dinner to enjoy while watching the movie Judy Moody and the Not So Bummer Summer at the library today at 6:30 p.m. This event is free, and registration is not required.

4. Look ahead:  Lenten Fish Fry

Our Lady of Sorrows will host their 5th annual Lenten Fish Fry on Friday from 4:30 p.m.-8 p.m. in the OLS School cafeteria. A fried or baked battered cod dinner is $8, $6 for seniors and $5 for children ages 6-12. Cheese pizza, a shrimp dinner and clam chowder (while supplies last) and sweets are also on the menu.

5. Look ahead: Old Winery Farmers Market Children's Day

Kids of all ages will appreciate this: Michigan's own Hudsonville Ice Cream Company will offer complimentary ice cream, dipping from 11 a.m. until supplies run out, at Saturday's market. The day will include other activities for children and music by Gia Warner. Learn more at theoldwinerymarket.com
