5 Things You Should Know Today - Jan. 4, 2012

Farmington Community Library groups kick off a new year this week.

Half-way through the first week of the new year, many groups are getting back into the swing, including those at the . Here's what else you should know today: 

1. The weather

Temperatures are climbing back into the 30s today, with cloudy skies and snow flurries expected. The National Weather Service predicts a low around 24 tonight. 

2. Frugal Family is back

After a brief hiatus over the holidays, our Frugal Family columnist Vera Lucksted is back with more money-saving ideas for 2012. Be sure to check her suggestions for some very easy ways to get in on local deals.

3. Library programs back for 2012

Today's , a story time for toddlers and parents, and , a discussion group about advanced computer topics, are among the free programs offered by the Farmington Community Library that are back for another year. Check our calendar, or visit farmlib.org for details. 

4. Look ahead:

Dress up in tiaras and princess dresses for this special event at in Farmington Hills on Thursday at 11 a.m. Children will enjoy snacks, games, a craft and more. Call 248-539-2300 for cost and additional information.

5. Look ahead:

Channel your inner Ginger Rogers or Fred Astaire with this Friday event for adults ages 50 and better at the in Farmington Hills. Enjoy a buffet dinner along with live entertainment featuring the Mike Wolverton Band. Singles and couples are welcome, at all experience levels. Tickets are $10; save $1 by registering early.
