5 Things You Should Know Today - July 10, 2013

Do you have a pair of shoes you can spare? A Farmington Hills cat rescue needs them.

Ready to get rid of those shoes you never wear because they pinch or are otherwise uncomfortable? We've got a plan for you in today's list of things you should know:

1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts sunny skies this morning, with clouds increasing into the afternoon. Highs today will range from 79 to 83, with lows tonight from 59 to 63, under mostly clear skies.

ShoeBox Recycling will turn your unwanted shoes (no skates, heavy winter boots, ski boots, big furry slippers or shoes with holes) into donations. Drop off your donated footwear at Monday-Friday 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Saturdays 10 a.m.-4 p.m., through Aug. 1.

3. Farmington Hills Zoning Board meets

Two Farmington Hills businesses – Jan Signs and Talmer Bank – are requesting variances for signs at tonight's ZBA meeting. Held in council chambers at , the meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. The complete agenda can be found on the city's website

4. Look ahead: Spiritual pursuits

Wednesday brings two opportunities for spiritual explorers. Learn at the  during a class at 7 p.m. Learn more by calling 248-497-9446. Also at 7 p.m., the , a discussion groups for people who are "spiritual but not religious", meets at 26705 Farmington Rd., Farmington Hills. Both events are free.

5. Look ahead:

The free concert series in continues Thursday at 7 p.m., with a Beatles tribute band. Members of SHOUT! have not only perfected the Beatles sound, but they play instruments and wear costumes to complete the authentic experience. If the weather's bad, the concert will move to the , located on 11 Mile, east of Middlebelt.
