5 Things You Should Know Today - July 3, 2013

Trash pick-up days in Farmington and Farmington Hills change after today, due to the 4th of July holiday.

If your trash and recycling collection day is tomorrow, Thursday or Friday, we've got news about when to put the bins and bags at the curb.

Here's what else you should know today: 

1. The weather

There's another hot day ahead, with temperatures soaring to around 94, gusting winds and a 40 percent chance of showers. The National Weather Service predicts a low tonight around 73 and a 30 percent chance of continued rain.

2. Waste pick-up days change

Trash and recycling collection will be moved a day, because of tomorrow's 4th of July holiday. Wednesday routes will be covered on Thursday, Thursday's on Friday and Friday's on Saturday. Containers and bags should be at the curb by 7 a.m. to ensure pick-up. 

3. Play date at the library

Today at 10:30 a.m., the  provides a time to bring children from birth to 5 years for playtime with a variety of toys and books. While the kids play, the adults have a chance to socialize. No registration required.

4. Look ahead:

 will be decorated, inside and out, with flowers and flags, for a free patriotic concert Wednesday at 8 p.m. Nardin Park's organist, choirs, soloists, instrumentalists, handbell choirs, and bagpipers will present a rousing program of music in honor of the July 4th holiday. 

5. Look ahead:

Join the Farmington Rotary and Xemplar clubs at  in Farmington on Thursday, 9 p.m., for this weekly event. A $1 ticket enters you in a drawing to pull a card, and if it's the queen of hearts, you'll split the pot with the service clubs, which use the funds to benefit a wide variety of local causes. Purchase tickets at the pub the night of the event or from club members.
