5 Things You Should Know Today - July 9, 2013

Farmington Hills city council meets tonight, and there's a free car show on Grand River in Farmington.

There will be fireworks at tonight's Farmington Hills city council meeting, or at least a discussion about them. 

Here's what else you should know today: 

1. The weather

We're starting the week with a 30 percent chance of showers after 1 p.m. today, so pack your umbrella. The National Weather Service predicts a high around 83 and a low tonight around 62.

If the rain holds off, stop by Village Commons mall on Grand River west of Power after 5 p.m. today. You'll find the Grand River Cruisers hosting a show that's free to attend and free for cruisers. They do raise money that goes to various charities, and there's always a DJ.

Council members have a short agenda tonight that includes the acquisition of a small piece of tax foreclosed property at Northwestern and Greening, and introduction of a fireworks-related ordinance. There's also time for public comment, and the Miss Oakland County pageant contestants are expected to attend. The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. at .

4. Look ahead:

Join The Playdates Wednesday, 7 p.m., for a free concert at the . This two member group consists of a guitar, mandolin and tons of energy, original music, along with Candyband favorites and rockin’ acoustic American songs. If the weather's bad, head over to , just across the street.

5. Look ahead:

Double Play, the world's only full-time flute and tuba ensemble, will perform for 's Wednesday night concert series. Husband and wife Amy Ridings and Patrick Scianella live in Farmington Hills and travel extensively, performing the music of Bach to Broadway. Admission is free, and the doors open at 7 p.m.
