5 Things You Should Know Today - June 12, 2012

A chat with addiction specialists begins at noon today right here on Farmington-Farmington Hills Patch.

Today, Patch.com will host a live chat with experts who can answer your questions about a class of drugs tied to several recent tragedies, including two in our own community. Here's what else you should know today:

1. The weather

There's a 30 percent chance we'll get rain before 7 a.m., but otherwise today should be mostly sunny with a high near 80. The National Weather Service predicts wind gusts as high as 30 miles per hour today, and low tonight around 50, under clear skies.

Addiction specialists from Brighton Center for Recovery Hospital will answer your questions about K2, Spice and other synthetic drugs today in a . From noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dr. David Yanga, addictionoligist and family practitioner, along with John Furey, Brighton counseling supervisor and Scott Masi, Brighton addiction outreach specialist, will be on hand to field readers' questions.

All Farmington Public Schools grandparents are invited to attend an informational discussion today, 6:30 p.m., at the Ten Mile Building, 32789 W 10 Mile Rd., Farmington. You'll learn more about the challenges that face grandparents raising their grandchildren and pick up helpful information about behavioral strategies and community resources. 

4. Look ahead:

is offering a Grillin' and Chillin' Cooking Show with Chef Anne-Marie Thursday, 11:30 a.m. Chef Anne-Marie will share her secrets for tender ribs, plus you will learn how to make barbecue sauce, simple slaw, cornbread casserole and dessert. 5. Look ahead:

The "Ceremony for Disposal of Unserviceable Flags" is a patriotic and dignified tribute to the U.S. flag and to its symbolism. The ceremony lasts approximately 45 minutes, and everyone is welcome to attend. It will be held in the parking lot behind the post.
