5 Things You Should Know Today - June 18, 2012

Farmington city council takes up the issue of chickens again tonight.

1. The weather

There is a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. The temperature is expected to be 86 degrees today, with a low of 72, according to the National Weather Service.

Officials have a full agenda for their 7 p.m. meeting today, which includes consideration of the controversial ordinance governing chickens. A copy of the full agenda is attached to this post.

Kids ages 10-12 are invited to the Farmington Community Library Main Library today at 7 p.m., to create a modern family portrait in the spirit of a Detroit Institute of Arts painting on display through the Inside|Out program. There's no charge.

4. Look ahead: 

Enjoy a play date with your child Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. The library provides a variety of toys and books where your little ones can socialize and you have a chance to chat with other adults. For children birth to 5 years old. No registration is required.

Join representatives from the Community Network Service Anti-Stigma program Wednesday, 7 p.m., at as they use the timeless classic The Wizard of Oz to enlighten people about some of the challenges faced by people with mental health issues on their journey "home".
