5 Things You Should Know Today - June 20, 2012

This Wednesday brings the opportunity to learn more about mental illness or about growing and selling produce.

Tonight, you can learn more about the challenges faced by people who live with, and are recovering from, mental illness, wrapped up in a Wizard of Oz theme. Here's what else you should know today:

1. The weather

It's going to be another hot one. It is predicted to again be a high of 95 degrees. The evening is expected to be around 72, according to the National Weather Service.

If mental illness affects you or someone you love, you know the challenges faced on the journey "home" to recovery. Join Community Network Service Anti-Stigma program at today, 7 p.m., as they use the timeless classic The Wizard of Oz, to enlighten people in an imaginative, honest and humorous way. Call 248-871-1406 to learn more.

This group of kids and adult volunteers learn about gardening, nutrition, food safety, cooking, entrepreneurship and more, by growing produce that's sold at a roadside stand. They meet today, 6:30 p.m., at the Tollgate Education Center, 28115 Meadowbrook Rd, Novi. Call 248-956-0029 to learn more.

4. Look ahead:

This weekly raffle, hosted Thursdays at 9 p.m. by the Farmington Rotary and Xemplar clubs, raises funds that support local charitable and civic programs. Buy a $1 ticket for a chance to draw a card and split a pot that grows each week. The drawing is held at ; buy a ticket there or from any club member.

5. Look ahead:

The new lawn at is ready for another free Rhythmz in Riley Park concert Friday at 7 p.m. Featured entertainment this week is the Union Avenue Band, playing a wide range of genres from rock to reggae, country to blues.
