5 Things You Should Know Today - June 25, 2012

Tonight, Farmington Hills city council members will discuss what to do about political candidates who want to speak during public comment.

Should political candidates be allowed to give what amounts to a stump speech during public comment at a city council meeting? Farmington Hills officials will take up that question at a study session tonight.

Here's what else you should know:

We're looking at a mild, but windy, start to the week, with a high today around 74 and gusts as high as 25 miles per hour. The National Weather Service predicts a low tonight around 54.

At the June 11 Hills city council meeting, a judicial candidate's appearance during public comment raised concerns that officials will discuss during a 6 p.m. study session today. Their 7:30 p.m. regular agenda includes final approval of ordinances that will allow , an ordinance amendment regarding inspections of single-family rental homes, a liquor license transfer and other items. 4. Look ahead:

The  offers a space for people who are learning English to engage in casual conversation and build their skills. There's no charge to meet with this group on Tuesday, 1:30 p.m., in Conference Room A.

The Paws in the Hills volunteers offer this session at the on Tuesday, 7 p.m., for dog owners who wish to use the east of Nine Mile Rd., on the former William Grace Elementary School site.
