5 Things You Should Know Today, June 28

We've got lots of good news in today's list of things you should know:

1. The weather

Good news: According to the National Weather Service, a shower or thunderstorm may blow through before 8 a.m. today, but after that, expect clear skies and temperatures around 80 degrees. Better news: Wednesday looks much the same.

2. Gas prices

Have you noticed they're dropping? DetroitGasPrices.com reports regular gas prices ranging from $3.38 per gallon to $3.69. The average price in metro Detroit for regular gas is $3.57, a drop of 40 cents per gallon from just a month ago, according to the AAA Fuel Gauge Report.

3. The city of Farmington needs you

There are eight—count 'em, eight—vacancies on Farmington boards and commissions. Open seats need volunteers on the Beautification Commission (three), Downtown Development Authority, Traffic and Safety Board, Commission on Children, Youth and Families and the Planning Commission. 4. Write the federal budget

Have you ever read a story about Congress and the federal deficit, and said to yourself, "I could balance that budget"? Tonight, you've got your chance. Join U.S. Rep. 5. Harry Potter book discussion
