5 Things You Should Know Today - June 5, 2012

Additional sessions have been added for the popular Paws in the Hills dog park orientation in Farmington Hills.

Due to popular demand, volunteer organizers for a Farmington Hills dog park have added to the number of orientation sessions they're offering. The dates and times are in our list of things you should know today:

1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts a repeat of yesterday's weather, with a high around 70, partly sunny skies and wind gusts up to 23 miles per hour. Expect a low tonight around 51.

Volunteers organizing these required sessions at the for those who intend to use the new dog park in Farmington Hills have added more dates this month:

  • Monday, June 18, 7 p.m.
  • Saturday, June 23, 12 p.m.
  • Tuesday, June 26, 7 p.m.

Sign-in starts 15 minutes before each session, and no one will be admitted who isn't registered. Call 248-473-1800 to sign up.

The commission meets today, 7:30 p.m., at the Costick Center, and their agenda includes updates on the dog park on Shiawassee east of Middlebelt (former William Grace Elementary property), updates on the city-owned golf course and recreation division. There's time allowed for public comment.

4. Look ahead:

On Wednesday at 7 p.m., members of the Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation will give you noncommercial advice for making informed decisions about your retirement. This event is free, but registration is required. Sign up at farmlib.org or by calling 248-553-0300. 

5. Look ahead: Libraries closed Friday

Both the Main Library and library will be closed on Friday, to allow staff to attend an in-service training. Patrons can still access their accounts, use the databases, and do other online activities at www.farmlib.org. both libraries will open on Saturday, at 10 a.m.
