5 Things You Should Know Today - Mar. 5, 2012

The Farmington Community Band performs tonight with the Farmington High School symphony orchestra.

There's a full evening of activities in Farmington and Farmington Hills, including local government meetings and an intergenerational concert. Here's what else you should know today:

1. The weather

The sun will shine today, but temperatures will stay below freezing. The National Weather Service predicts a high of 29 and a low tonight of 24. 

2. On the Education Stage

At 7:30 p.m. today, the symphony band and the Farmington Community Band combine on the FHS stage. The groups will perform separately and then combine on stage for a big finale. A program is published on the FCB website

3. Farmington Hills city council 

Officials will meet in a study session at 6 p.m. today in the community room to talk about "City Council Live" cable audience participation, council access to electronic packets and update. The 7:30 p.m. agenda includes reports from the Historic District and Planning Commission, public hearings on a tax abatement for Panasonic Automotive Systems and consideration of an amendment to the city's solicitors/peddlers ordinance. 4. Farmington city council

The council meets at at 7 p.m. today to discuss the 2012 work plan, a capital improvements millage, a special event request from HGTV's "Cash & Cari", and corridor improvement authority appointments. Time is allowed for public comment. 

5. Look ahead: Farmington School Board

Officials meet in a study session tomorrow, 7:30 p.m., at the in Farmington. On the agenda are an update on the International Baccalaureate and Readers Workshop programs, for use of the William Grace Elementary property and changes to . The complete agenda packet is attached to this article.
