5 Things You Should Know Today - Mar. 7, 2012

Balmy weather in Farmington and Farmington Hills gives you reason enough to get out of the house.

The mercury's climbing above 60 degrees today, and we've got plenty of reasons for you to get out of the house (not that you'll need them). Here's what you should know today:

1. The weather

While the temperaures might seem balmy, the National Weather Service predicts winds will pick up today, with gusts as high as 34 miles per hour. Tonight will be cloudy and breezy; expect a low of 48 and rain showers after 1 a.m.

Adults ages 50 and older who want to give this popular dance form a try are welcome to stop by the  today at noon for a lesson. Cost is $4 for residents, $5 for non-residents. For more information, call 248-473-1830.

4. Tuskegee Airmen honored tonight

Pembleton T. Cochran and Matthew Corbin of Farmington Hills, two of America's first black military airmen, will be honored by the Oakland County Board of Commissioners in Pontiac today. A reception will be held at 5:30 p.m. and proclamations presented during the board's 7 p.m. meeting in the Commissioners Auditorium, 1200 N. Telegraph. The public is invited to attend.

5. Look ahead:

Pick up great deals at on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. There are about 100 tables of gently used baby, maternity and children’s clothing, toys, equipment and furniture.
