5 Things You Should Know Today - March 21, 2012

Interested in improving your public speaking skills? One of two local Toastmasters clubs meets today in Farmington Hills.

You can tap into a unique benefit raffle, or learn how to tap a maple tree, right here in Farmington and Farmington Hills this week. Here's what you should today: 

1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts a repeat of yesterday, with fog before 11 a.m. and then partly sunny skies and a high near 82. The temperature dips to 57 tonight, under partly cloudy skies. 

2. Toastmasters clubs meet

If you'd like to improve your public speaking skills, two chapters of the Toastmasters International meet in the Farmington Hills area. at ; tomorrow at 6:30 p.m., meet at on Haggerty, north of Eight Mile Rd.

3. Look ahead:

Check in at in downtown Farmington Thursday night at 9 p.m. for the Farmington Rotary Club Queen of Hearts raffle. Proceeds benefit the club's charitable activities in the community, and you've got a chance at an ever-increasing cash prize. Tickets are $1 and can be purchased at the pub on Thursday night or from any club member. 

4. Look ahead:

Oakland Community College Womencenter's 20th Annual "A Call to Wholeness" conference for women takes place Saturday on the in Farmington Hills. Keynote speaker is Brenda Strausz, MA, LLP, on the topic, "Live Your Magnificence."  There will also be two workshop sessions, a continental breakfast, lunch and a prize drawing. 5. Look ahead:

With the warm weather, in . Experts from the  will show you how to select and tap a maple tree, collect the sap and boil it down to make genuine maple syrup. Registration is required, call 248-477-1135. Cost is $8 per person, $25 per family.
