5 Things You Should Know Today - March 28, 2012

The temperature is expected to climb into the 60s, making it a great day to explore outdoor art in downtown Farmington.

Get out and enjoy today's warmer weather, but hold onto your hat:

1. The weather

Expect to see a lot of the sun today, as the temperature climbs up into the low 60s. The National Weather Service predicts a low tonight around 37, with strong breezes throughout the day and evening. Winds may gust as high as 28-33 miles per hour. 

2. Art around town

The in downtown Farmington, making seven paintings from the DIA visible along Grand River and Farmington Rd. through June. In Farmington Hills, the City Gallery at the is hosting , featuring dresses made of recyclable materials, through April 13.

Senior adults who have basic painting skills are invited to meet with this group today, 1 p.m., at the . There's no formal instruction, but members of the Farmington Artist Club attend to help offer tips, guidance, and suggestions. The Costick Center provides the paints, you bring the canvas.

4. Look ahead:

 hosts three workshops Thursday, 7 p.m., as part of their Lifelong Learning Forum series. Thursday's topics: The Art and Math of Origami, Two Birds: On the Psycho-dynamics of Mystical Experience, and Present Moment Meditation. Cost is $5. Complete descriptions are included in on our calendar.

5. Look ahead: Dog Park volunteers needed

Interested in helping to organize the Paws in the Hills dog park on Shiawassee in Farmington Hills? Volunteers are forming work groups to handle orientation sessions, publicity/marketing, fund raising and events. They'll meet Thursday, 7:30 p.m., at the  next to the Spicer House Visitors Center in  on Farmington Road.
