5 Things You Should Know Today - March 29, 2012

Never mind the MegaMillions, a Farmington area charity offers the chance for you to win big tonight.

Okay, so you didn't win the MegaMillions jackpot. There's still a local chance to take home a more modest cash prize, while helping out a local service organization: 

1. The weather

There may be patchy frost on the ground today before 8 a.m., according to the National Weather Service. Look for lots of sun and a high today around 50, with tonight's low around 32.

If you haven't spent all your money on MegaMillions tickets, consider stopping by tonight at 9 p.m. for the Farmington Rotary Club's progressive Queen of Hearts raffle. Tickets are just $1, and the pot gets bigger every week. You can buy tickets at the pub or from any Rotarian; the money supports the civic group's charitable efforts.

This weekend is your last chance to see Oakland Community College's production of this modern dramatic tale of Hamlet, told from the worm's-eye view of two of Shakespeare's bewildered minor characters. Show are at 8 p.m. tonight, Friday and Saturday at the in Farmington Hills.

4. Look ahead:

On Friday, the Farmington Area Commission on Aging and the Farmington Hills Senior Division host this day of free health screenings with optional low-cost blood and other tests at the , from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. You'll also receive counseling and referrals, if necessary. 5. Look ahead:

Farmington Hills hosts this event Saturday, 7 p.m.-9 p.m., with a local astronomer who will tell you all about the stars, planets and phases of the moon. Children will learn to use a star wheel that they create. Children must be at least 5 years old to attend. Cost is $5, $15 per family of four. Registration is available online at https://recreg.fhgov.com or in person at the between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
