Enjoy a sunny start to the week in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

Since we're starting the week with a perfect spring day, why not start thinking about planning the perfect garden? Here's what you should know today:

1. The weather

Looks like a perfect spring day ahead. The National Weather Service predicts at high of 72 and sunny skies, with a low tonight around 51. 

2. Beautification Commission Awards

Have you started in on a gorgeous garden or landscaping for your home, business or subdivision? The Beautification Commission presents awards each year for the most beautifully maintained areas of the community. Download the nomination form from the city's website or call the Community Development Office at 248-871-2543 to have a form mailed. Judging takes place from July through August.

The planning comission holds a public hearing on the keeping of chickens within city limits during their 7 p.m. meeting today at . Also on the agenda are a site plan approval for property in the historic district at 34021 Grand River, a special land use request for a property at 23311 Orchard Lake Road and other items. Farmington Hills city officials will hold a study session at 6 p.m. today to talk about water and sewer rates and benchmarking city buildings. Their 7 p.m. agenda includes an extension of a moratorium related to medical marijuana, along with many other items. Full agendas are attached to this post. 

4. Look ahead: Cities, school board meet

Farmington and Farmington Hills city councils and Farmington school board members meet in a study session Tuesday, 6 p.m., in council chambers at . The public is welcome to attend.

5. Look ahead:

On Tuesday, 7 p.m., Bonnie Levin, speech therapist from Early On will lead a discussion on strategies to help parents deal with picky or problem eaters. Registration for this free event, held at the , is required, call 248-209-2520.
