5 Things You Should Know Today - May 29, 2012

The Farmington School Board meets tonight at North Farmington High School, to recognize a large number of creative students.

Tonight, Farmington Public Schools officials will hold their regular meeting, but not in its regular place, because students who participated in this year's PTA (Parent Teacher Association) Reflections program will be honored.

Here's what else you should know today:

1. The weather

The heat stays with us today, as the National Weather Service predicts a high around 82. There's a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 8 a.m., and winds may gust as high as 26 miles per hour. Under partly cloudy skies, tonight's low will fall around 53.

2. AARP Driver Safety Program

This two-day course, held at the today at 10 a.m., will teach seniors defensive driving techniques, rules of the road, new traffic laws and more. The second session meets tomorrow, same time and place. Cost is $3. Call 248-473-1822 to learn more.

3. Farmington School Board meeting

Farmington school board members are meeting at 7:30 p.m. today at , in order to accommodate a recognition for students who participated in PTA Reflections, one of the nation's largest student art recognition programs. The full agenda for tonight's meeting is attached to this post.

4. Look ahead:

Stop by the Wednesday between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m., to sample Michigan beer and wine, enjoy appetizers and learn more about three local organizations: , which provides services to adults with developmental disabilities, the youth programs and the Xemplar Club, a civic organization that serves families, seniors and youth in Farmington and Farmington Hills.
