5 Things You Should Know Today - May 30, 2012

Celebrate Michigan beer and wine, and help adults with developmental disabilities and local youth programs, this evening at Longacre House in Farmington Hills.

Today's weather may be a little cooler, but you can attend an event tonight that looks like a real heart-warmer. Here's what else you should know today:

Temperatures are expected to drop into the 60s today, under mostly sunny skies. The National Weather Service predicts a low tonight around 43.

This at the  is hosted by the Xemplar Club, and Farmington Hills Youth and Family Services After-School Program. The fun starts at 5 p.m. today, with appetizers, entertainment, Michigan beers and wines, door prizes and more. Proceeds will provide support for youth programs and people with developmental disabilities. Cost is $25 per person; call 248-473-1841 to make a reservation.

This group of kids and adult volunteers learn about gardening, nutrition, food safety, cooking, entrepreneurship and more during weekly meetings on Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m., at the Tollgate Center in Novi. Hands on gardening activities provide the produce for sale at farm stands. Interested in starting your dog in pet therapy? Attend an informational meeting Thursday, 7:30 p.m., at . 5. Look ahead:

Dog owners who wish to use the new on Shiwassee east of 9 Mile Road must attend this one-hour orientation session, offered at the by Paws in the Hills volunteers. The dog park will be open to anyone who lives within the district boundaries. Space is limited, and registration is required. Call 248-473-1800 to reserve your spot.
