5 Things You Should Know Today - May 31, 2012

New voter identification cards are coming your way, whether you live in Farmington or Farmington Hills.

Chances are, at least one legislative district in which you live this year has changed, as a result of the 2010 Census. Next month, you'll receive a new piece of identification to reflect those changes.

Here's what else you should know: 

1. The weather

The sun will be out today, as the temperature creeps into the lower 60s, but expect rain tonight. The National Weather Service predicts a 90 percent chance of showers overnight, with a low around 48.

2. New voter ID cards

By the end of June, residents in and will receive new cards in the mail. The documents will reflect made following the 2010 Census. Both communities remain in the 37th State House district. Questions? Call your city clerk, 248-871-2410 in the Hills or 248-474-5500, ext. 2218 in Farmington.

The pot grows each week for this fundraiser, hosted at in Farmington every Thursday at 9 p.m. by the Farmington Rotary and Xemplar Clubs. Buy a $1 ticket from any club member or at the pub before the drawing, and you'll have a chance to pull a card. The pot is split with the civic organizations.

4. Look ahead:

The  Senior Division is sponsoring this Friday morning trip for adults 50 and better. The salute to the Cotton Club will include sultry, swingin' favorites such as "Hi De Ho" made popular by Cab Calloway, "Satin Doll" by Duke Ellington and other classics. Cost is $55 for residents, $60 for non-residents and includes transportation. Registration is required, call 248-473-1830 to sign up.

5. Look ahead:

Register in advance for this moonlit hike on the trails in at 9:30 p.m. Friday. Outdoor lovers ages 5 and older are invited to meet at the and experience the sights and sounds of the park after dark. Cost is $3; to register, call 248-477-7735.
