5 Things You Should Know Today - Nov. 1, 2011

Farmington School Board meets tonight, and we've got news about our election-related coverage.

A week from today, voters in Farmington and Farmington Hills will elect local representatives and decide millage questions. Here's what you should know about our coverage, and a few other things:

1. The weather

Motorists should watch for patchy fog this morning, but that's expected to clear out by 10 a.m., leaving us with a sunny day and a high of 57. The National Weather Service predicts winds may gust up to 23 miles per hour, but they'll calm down tonight, when the temperature dips to around 42.

2. School board meeting tonight

board members will consider approving a trimester study tonight as part of a full study session agenda. Read all about the 7:30 p.m. meeting, held at the Schulman Administrative Center, in .

5. Look ahead:

Retired architect, John Hammer, who grew up in a jazz playing family, has been playing jazz piano most of his life. Tomorrow, he performs a free concert of 1930s and 1940s jazz classics at ' Smith Auditorium at 1 p.m.
