5 Things You Should Know Today - Nov. 10, 2011

The weather's about to take a turn for the colder.

The "s" word is in the forecast today:

1. The weather

From the National Weather Service website: "Rain and snow showers likely after 10 a.m." Look for a high of 44, and a low tonight dipping below 30 degrees, with wind gusts today as high as 20 miles per hour.

It's a world of local business at the Expo today. From 11:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Farmington Manor, 23666 Orchard Lake Rd., Farmington Hills, 60 businesses will have their goods and services on display. Keynote speaker is Mike Fezzey, of Huntington National Bank.

3. Scouting for food

If you got a "Scouting for Food" bag last weekend, don't forget to fill it up. This community service project is undertaken by troops in the Great Lakes Council, across southeast Michigan. Scouts distributed empty bags Nov. 5 that should be filled and left for collection on Saturday. Learn more on the Gleaners Food Bank website.

4. Look ahead: Miss Farmington fundraiser

Elise Newcomer, Miss Farmington 2011, hosts a bowling event Saturday at in Farmington Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., to raise funds for Joy Southfield Development Corp., a community development effort in a northwest Detroit neighborhood. Even if you don't bowl, you can browse through a silent auction and holiday craft show, enter a raffle or 50/50 drawing. Cost for two games of bowling is $20 per person which include shoes, pizza and pop.

5. Look way ahead: Farmington Hills city council

Three council members – Ken Massey, Randy Bruce and Richard Lerner – will be sworn in at Monday night's council meeting. The agenda hasn't been finalized, but expect a study session prior to the meeting with a discussion about one of the .
