5 Things You Should Know Today - Nov. 14, 2011

New officials sworn tonight in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

Newly elected Farmington and Farmington Hills city council members will take their oaths of office tonight – and they're not the only ones who will be sworn in this week. Here's what's ahead:

1. The weather

The National Weather Service is predicting a 90 percent chance of rain after 7 a.m. Look for a daytime high around 54, with skies clearing tonight and a low around 38.

2. meeting

Newly elected Farmington council members JoAnne McShane, Kristin Kuiken and Greg Cowley will be sworn in during a special city council meeting tonight at 5:30 p.m., in council chambers at city hall. Officials will also elect a new mayor, consider council member appointments to a variety of committees and commissions, discuss orientation for new council members and setting a strategic planning session in January. 3. meeting

During a 6 p.m. study session in the community room at city hall, Hills officials will discuss the 2020 Vision Energy Committee's report and a resolution opposing changes to the state's no-fault insurance law. Their regular meeting, held in council chambers at 7:30 p.m., begins with the oath of office administered to newly elected council members Randy Bruce, Richard Lerner and Ken Massey and mayor Barry Brickner. 4. Look ahead: School board Tuesday

Winners in Tuesday's school board election – Karen Bolsen, Howard Wallach, Murray Kahn and George Gurrola – will be sworn in during Tuesday's school board meeting, which starts at 7:30 p.m. at the in Farmington.
