5 Things You Should Know Today - Nov. 17, 2011

Next week at this time, we observe a national holiday that's set aside as a day for giving thanks. But there's plenty going on in Farmington and Farmington Hills between now and then:

1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts snow flurries today and a high near 38. Winds will gust as high as 21-28 miles per hours today and tonight, when the mercury drops to 28.

2. Holiday Guide 2011

We've rolled all of our holiday stories – from where you can make charitable donations to how to select your Thanksgiving turkey – into one, neat feature that we're calling "Holiday Guide 2011". If you enjoy knitting, consider joining a group of Fiber Fans who meet at the once a month. Their next meeting is tonight at 6 p.m.; if you can't make it, put Dec. 15 on your calendar. There's no charge to attend, and you can just drop in. Check the calendar on the library's website for more information.

4. Performing arts weekend

This weekend brings opportunities to watch live theater and dance performances, by our community's talented high school students: at , at , and the at , and at the , produced by Sky's the Limit Productions under the auspices of the youth theater program.
