Can you believe it's the last full week of October? Time flies when there are so many things to do in Farmington and Farmington Hills. Here's what's on tap today:

1. The weather

Today may start out cloudy, but the skies are expected to clear later this morning. Today's high should be around 63, according to the National Weather Service, with winds gusting to 23 miles per hour. Winds calm down tonight; expect a low around 42.

Join local veterinarian Christian Ast at the at 6:30 p.m. today for a free seminar on Preparing Your Pets for Emergencies. Gail Novak-Phelps from the MI State Animal Response Team (MI-SART) will also talk about the role of MI-SART volunteers and responders who aid animals during emergencies and disasters. No need to register – just stop by.

6 p.m. - in Farmington. Not a Halloween-ish event, this free walk is for history buffs. For more information, call 248-701-8112.

7 p.m. - at in Farmington. Enjoy an evening of literary readings from authors Matt Bell, Donora Hillard, and Aaron Burch.

7:30 p.m. - Parent Forum on Farmington Schools' math acceleration policy, at the Ten Mile building, in Room 1. School administrators will talk with parents about the up a grade.

7:30 p.m. - at . Walk after dark with a naturalist and take in the sights and sounds of the outdoors. Cost is $3.

5. city council meeting

In addition to the transfer of a liquor license and appointments to the city's Pension and Grand River Corridor Improvement Authority boards, Hills officials will hear the results tonight of the work done by 2020 Visioning committees, which have been working since early this year. The council will also consider approving an agreement with DTE Energy for the replacement of mercury vapor street lighting with LED lights. A complete agenda can be found at fhgov.com.
