5 Things You Should Know Today — Sept. 20, 2011

The rain is clearing out today, just in time for a variety of local activities and prep sports events:

1. The weather

Early morning fog should burn off by 8 a.m., leaving us with partly sunny skies and a high in the low 70s today. The mercury will dip down to the mid-50s tonight, according to the National Weather Service.

Adults 50 and older can take advantage of interactive demonstrations, exhibitions of the latest products and services and free screenings for blood pressure, body mass index, glucose and bone density from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. today at the . Seniors 60 and older are invited to lunch at 1 p.m. And at 10 a.m., local resident and WJBK-TV reporter Amy Lange and her partner, Fernando, will demonstrate the skills they'll bring to a Sept. 30 fundraiser for the American Diabetes Association.

Farmington Public Schools holds the last of its new family orientation events at 7 tonight at the Ten Mile Administrative Center in Farmington. Topics will include disciplinary protocol, open house and conference schedules, parent organizations, nutrition services, transportation and more.
