5 Things You Should Know Today - Sept. 22, 2011

Beer and wine tasting, investment lessons and more are on the calendar in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

Look for lots of activity in downtown Farmington today, as organizers prepare for tonight's Harvest Moon celebration kick-off. Let's hope the weather holds for them, and for at 5:30 p.m.:

1. The weather

There's a 20 percent chance of rain today and tonight, but nothing serious. The National Weather Service predicts a high of 67 and a low of 48.

If you like a good, brisk walk, head over to the in this morning at 10 a.m. Lace up a pair of comfortable walking shoes and join a naturalist for a little exercise. Cost is $2 at the door, and strollers are welcome.

Ken Prather of Prather Investment Management will discuss Fidelity funds, which are commonly held investments, at the tonight. He'll talk about Fidelity investment options and account features, and offer practical tips for managing your current investments. This free event is part of the library's fall investment series, and starts at 7 p.m.

The downtown Farmington fall celebration kicks off at 6 p.m. with a beer and wine tasting at the . Sample craft beers, fine wines, and meads, along with food pairings prepared by chefs from the Culinary Studies Institute at .
