5 Things You Should Know Today—Sept. 13, 2011

The Farmington school board meets tonight at the Schulman Administrative Center.

We're in the second day of the first full week of school for students in Farmington and Farmington Hills, and the school board meets tonight with a full agenda. Here's what else you need to know today:

1. The weather

There's a 30 percent chance of storms and thunderstorms tonight, according to the National Weather Service, but nothing severe. Expect a high today of 78, with skies clearing and a low of 50 tonight.

2. For seniors

Shredding documents with personal and financial information is an easy way to protect your identity, and the city of Farmington Hills is . Bring up to four bags of paper (no junk mail or trash) for shredding today between 10 a.m. and noon at the .

5. Farmington school board

Officials will hear reports tonight from the Farmington PTA Council and the Farmington African American Parent Network, along with an update on the first week of school. They'll consider agreements with nonunion employees, school administrator and alternative high school educator associations. The board will also consider a resolution authorizing negotiations for an extension on closing the sale of Eagle Elementary School, due to to block the sale of the building to the Islamic Cultural Association in Franklin. The resolution also affirms the removal of the building from a contract to demolish four other school buildings this year. The meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. in in Farmington.
