5 Things You Should Know Today—Sept. 8, 2011

More rain is in the forecast, but the day is filled with activities in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

While the weather may be cool and rainy, we've got hot news about activities in Farmington and Farmington Hills:

1. The weather

The National Weather Service predicts a 60 percent chance of rain today, with temperatures remaining almost even—a high of 67, and a low of 65. Wind gusts may be as high as 20 miles per hour during the day, but they are expected to drop below 10 mph tonight.

2. Welcome new families!

Farmington Public Schools will host a welcome meeting for new families today at 10 a.m. at the Ten Mile Administrative Center, 32789 W. 10 Mile Rd. in Farmington. Learn about disciplinary protocol, open house and conference schedules, parent organizations, nutrition services, transportation and more. if you can't make today's event.

5. Michigan Reads, and So Does Neal Rubin

The will host a special "Michigan Reads!" event at 7 p.m., with Neal Rubin of the Detroit News reading from the community book Memoirs of a Goldfish by Devin Scillian. The public is invited to attend, and there is no charge for the event.
