Crosses and Cranes: What's Going on at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church?

We asked church representatives about the white crosses on the lawn and two large cranes operating on the property.

Motorists passing on Shiawassee in Farmington this week saw a startling combination of crosses and cranes on the property.

The crosses are part of a Michigan Right to Life traveling exhibit, said Sorrows Dignity of Life committee member Karen Paterson. Each of the 1,600 white crosses represents two abortions; a sign with the exhibit reads, "Every day, 3200 children die."

Paterson said the Knights of Columbus St. Francis Council #4401, the Dignity of Life committee and volunteers from the parish installed the crosses on Saturday. The committee is relatively new, she added, having formed two years ago. Anyone interested in the exhibit or in volunteering with the committee can get in touch with Paterson through the church office, 248-474-5720.

"I would love to answer any questions people have," Paterson said.

And what about those cranes? According to a church representative, the church's boiler system is being replaced, and they were needed to complete the project.

why would the cranes be a question? Crosses is ok to understand why they put them there. I would of thought to remember the victims for 9/11

Nancy, I heard from people who were curious about both - and I was curious, too!

I don't know what to "click" on to find the garage sales. They used to be "rightRead More there" when I opened the Patch email everyday. I am assuming they are now listed under something else and I guess I need instructions as to where to find it and what to click on to get to them. thanks

Grama, in addition to our Thursday map, you can click on the Events link at the top of the page, andRead More along the left side, you'll see "Garage Sales". Just click on that, and you'll see all the listings. They should be among the events in our newsletter, too. Hope that helps!
