Crystal Ball Not Required

Buying with an eye toward future resale value makes good sense for home shoppers.

When shopping for a home, potential resale value is an important consideration. After all, a home is often the biggest investment most of us will make in our lives, and we want our dollars to count.

Three and four bedroom homes are the most popular among homebuyers in the United States, so one thing you can do to boost resale success is to shop with that in mind. Even if you use a fourth bedroom for other purposes, its existence in your home might make a huge difference when it's time to sell.

Also important - at least two bathrooms, preferably two and a half. One for guests and visitors to wash up (the half bath), one for the master bedroom and one to be shared by the other bedrooms.

Regardless of home size, considering these two factors will make your home attractive to a larger pool of potential buyers when it's time to sell.

All the homes featured this week have four bedrooms and three or more bathrooms. Beyond that, the similarities are few, with listing prices ranging from a low of $259,900 in Farmington Hills to a high of $1,899,000 in Birmingham, and a wide range of square footage, conditions and amenities.
