Free and low cost events are featured for frugal families this week.

We are serving up plenty of shopping and a helping of family-friendly fun this week. Dig in:

Open House

Deal: Explore the fire house, fire trucks and enjoy games, dress up, clowns and more at this year’s open house. This fun filled family event is free.

When: Friday Oct. 14, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Deal: Enjoy a free open skate along with cider, cookies and tips from instructors. Skate rental is $2.50.

When: Saturday, Oct. 15, 11:30 a.m.-12:50 p.m.

Deal: $5 admission (children 2 and under are free) gives you access to over 30 alternative medicine vendors in areas such as Reiki, Bowen work, meditation, massage therapy and more. Kids will flip for the children’s center with bounce house, face painting, cotton candy, popcorn and more. Proceeds benefit SOUL, a Farmington area charity, as well as a Greyhound Rescue.

When: Saturday Oct. 15, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Do good, look good!

Deal: Our friends at have some seriously good deals this week. Donate $1 and enter to win a goodie bag of $598 worth of beauty supplies. Make a donation of $5 to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation and receive a ribbon thermal mug. A $10 donation gets a ribbon umbrella or cosmetic bag. On Friday, Oct. 16, with a minimum $10 donation, get a cut, style and dry from one of their salon stylists.

When: Mug, bag and umbrella are offered through Oct. 31 or while supplies last. Salon event is Sunday Oct. 16, 11 a.m.-6 p.m., first come, first served, walk in only.

Rummage sales

Deal: Free admission to two area rummage sales. and both have their rummage sales going on this week. If you’re looking for household items, clothing or books, this is a great way to shop and save!
