UPDATED: DTE Energy Reports 2700+ Without Power in Farmington Hills, West Bloomfield

UPDATE: By 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, DTE reported that power has been restored for the 2,769 customers in northwest Farmington Hills and has revised restoration estimates for others

New outages were also reported:

• 332 customers between 13 and 14 Mile west of Orchard Lake - restoration estimated Tuesday by 11:30 p.m.
• 148 customers north of 11 Mile between Middlebelt and Orchard Lake - restoration estimated Wednesday by 11:30 p.m.
• 164 customers west of Inkster and north of 10 Mile - restoration estimated Wednesday by 11:30 p.m.

There are also small clusters of outages scattered throughout the city, and an outage that starts in the Franklin Hills Country Club area (13 Mile and Inkster) affects 630 customers, including some in Farmington Hills. 

With high winds blowing through the area, nearly 3,000 DTE customers in Farmington Hills lost power late Monday night. 

The lights went off at around 9:15 p.m. for 140 DTE customers in the Middlebelt and 13 Mile area, due to an auto-protection device. The devices are attached to power lines and act as a circuit breaker, according to the DTE website. 

By Tuesday morning, DTE revised its power restoration estimates from Thursday to Wednesday, between 9:30 p.m. and 11:30 p.m.

Shortly after 10:30 p.m., 2,769 customers in the northwest corner of Farmington Hills lost power in an area outage that includes a portion of West Bloomfield. The outage stretches from 13 Mile to north of 14 Mile, between Drake and M-5. 

The Detroit Free Press reported 33,000 customers in Oakland, Wayne, Macomb, Lapeer, St. Clair and Washtenaw counties were without power Monday night. 

DTE spokesman John Austerberry told Patch earlier in the day that while the company has released 100 contract crews to work on the damage caused by Hurricane Sandy, local crews remain in place to deal with anticipated outages in Michigan.

The National Weather Service issued a wind advisory Monday morning for all of southern Michigan, including Midland, Bay, Lenawee, Saginaw, Tuscola, Shiawassee, Genesee, Lapeer, Livingston, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Wayne counties. The advisory is in effect until 5 p.m. Tuesday.
