UPDATED: DTE Reports Thousands of Farmington Area Residents Without Power

The power company has no restoration time estimated for most residents affected by the outages, which occurred during storms Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.

Updated: Thousands more in Farmington and Farmington Hills are without power, as another round of strong storms blew through early Thursday. 

New outages are reported in the following areas:

  • 3,100 between 12 Mile and 14 Mile, west of Drake and east of Farmington Road (expands an outage area from July 4)
  • 599 north of 12 Mile, between Orchard Lake and Middlebelt
  • More than 100 between Orchard Lake and Middlebelt, Nine and 10 Mile 
  • 814 east and west of Orchard Lake, from Grand River to Shiawassee
  • 592 between Grand River and Shiawassee, east of Middlebelt
  • 1,981 in a swath east and west of Farmington, from Grand River south to 7 Mile in Livonia 

In addition smaller neighborhood outages are scattered throughout the community. DTE has no restoration estimate at this time.

Meanwhile, the 4th of July holiday ended with more than 1,100 DTE Energy customers north of 12 Mile Road in Farmington Hills in the dark. 

Caused by the tripping of an auto-protection device, the outage affects an area of the city between Orchard Lake and Drake Roads, from 12 Mile north to a point about half-way between 13 Mile and 14 Mile Roads.

DTE estimates power will be restored by late tomorrow morning for a cluster of 416 customers just north of 12 Mile and east of Farmington Road; the power company doesn't have a restoration time estimated for the balance of affected customers. 

Thousands of metro Detroit customers spent Independence Day without power, many have been off-line since Tuesday.
