Farmington Area Representative Sponsors Unique Reading Contest

Vicki Barnett (D-37th District) offers kids the chance to be legislator for a day.

State Representative Vicki Barnett (D-37th District) has launched a reading contest that will give students the chance to spend a day in Lansing and experience firsthand how state government works.

In a press release, Barnett said the contest is open to all students in kindergarten through fourth grade in Farmington and Farmington Hills.

"With school being out for the summer, it is a great time for children of all ages to spend some time in their local libraries and explore some fantastic books," Barnett said. "I want to encourage our young ones in Farmington and Farmington Hills to keep their minds fresh and experience some great books this summer."

Children can pick up an entry form at or City Halls, the Farmington Community Library or . The children simply fill out the form with their contact information and the names of books they've read this summer and mail them to Rep. Barnett, P.O. Box 30014, Lansing, MI 48909, or deposit them in the box at the Main Library.

Winners will be randomly drawn and invited with their families to the State Capitol in Lansing to be a "Legislator for a Day."
