Farmington Hills PD Staffer Goes Above and Beyond for Halloween

Francine Moore loves the Oct. 31 holiday and dresses to show it.

There are people who love Halloween. And then there's Francine Moore.

Plastic spiders crawl across her computer monitor at the Records Dept. Spooky decor adorns the corners of her desk and cubicle walls. Moore also dresses the part of a Halloween fanatic, from her appliqued sweater to a ghost-shaped watch.

We caught up with her on her lunch break Friday to ask: What's up with that?

"I always loved dressing up (for Halloween) and going to haunted houses," Moore said, adding she also enjoys the thrill and suspense of scary movies. "I've loved it since I can remember."

She grew up in Southfield and recalls that after everyone was through trick-or-treating, "there was always one house designated ... where everybody went for coffee and hot chocolate." Eventually, she started organizing her own Halloween parties and has only missed one year, when her fiance was ill.

Now a Redford resident, Moore decorates her house inside and out, but adds, "I have so much stuff, I can't even display all of it." She always buys at least one (and usually more than one) new Halloween-themed item each year, shopping at , and other area stores.

"I especially hit the sales after Halloween," she said. "I bought my son's Halloween costume after Halloween last year." Three-year-old Spencer Reid and his mom will be pirates.

A purse Moore carries this time of year was a gift from her sister. Family members and friends often give her Halloween-themed gifts for her birthday, which is at the end of November.

"My dad always said I was a witch in another life," Moore said, with a smile.
