Farmington Hills Residents Receive Awards at Providence Hospitals Fundraiser

The 2013 Friends' Ball on April 20 benefits services at Providence Park in Novi.

Richard Elsea and Ronald M. Horwitz, both of Farmington Hills, will receive the Order of Charity award at this year's Providence Health Foundation 2013 Friends’ Ball, held April 20 at the Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn.

Providence Hospital established the Order of Charity Award in 1987 to acknowledge those whose lives exemplify the essence of the hospital's mission. Awardees promote physical, mental, social and spiritual health for all those seeking care, including the poor and those with special needs.

The fundraiser benefits Providence Park Hospital in Novi and Providence Hospitals participating service lines and centers of excellence: Cardiology, Medical Education and Simulation, Neuroscience, Oncology, Women and Pediatrics, Orthopedics, and a new dialysis unit on the campus of Providence Hospital in Southfield. This much-needed expansion includes a $1.8 million investment by St. John Providence Health System to relocate and expand the dialysis treatment bays from 7 to 14.

Alan Mumaw, MD, of Brighton will be honored with this year’s Caduceus Society Physician of the Year award. A special Providence Lifetime Achievement Award will honor the memory and legacy of Arthur DeRoy Rodecker, who resided in Bloomfield Hills.

The Friends’ Ball is an elegant evening including dinner; silent and live auctions; admission to the Henry Ford Museum, currently featuring the Drive America Exhibit; and music by the Jill Jack Trio.
