Farmington Residents Win Top Spots in Old Winery Pie Baking Contest

Melissa Manasa and Joanna Danowski take home Whole Foods gift cards from the Saturday event.

A juicy combination of peaches and blueberry, topped with a Dutch crumb mixture, took top honors at the 3rd annual Homemade from Scratch Pie Contest, held Saturday at the Old Winery Market in Farmington. 

Melissa Manasa of Farmington took home a $100 Whole Foods gift card for her entry, which finished first out of five pies entered in the winter market competition. Joanna Danowski of Farmington won a $25 Whole Foods gift card for her second place entry, a raspberry lemon pie topped by plump, sweet raspberries dusted with powdered sugar. 

Jesse Eisenhuth of The Henry Ford, Detroit News food writer Kate Lawson, U.S. Department of Agriculture representative Steven Craig, Farmington Farmers and Artisans Market Master Walt Gajewski and Farmington-Farmington Hills Patch editor Joni Hubred-Golden judged the competition.
