First Thing Farmington-Farmington Hills: Sept. 17, 2012

Farmington city council members meet tonight in a closed session before their regular meeting.

Farmington city council members meet tonight at city hall, starting with a study session that includes a closed meeting to discuss a land acquisition and sale of the former 47th District Court property on 10 Mile Rd.

Today's historical photo features Emily Butterfield, daughter of Farmington's first mayor Wells Butterfield. Father and daughter were architects; Emily was Michigan's first female licensed architect. She was also a talented artist, and the photo shows her teaching a group of young children in her hometown of Algonac, where she moved after her father passed away.
