Fit Farmington Has First 50-Miler

Beverly Schroll logs all of her miles walking the one-mile Farmington Fit trail.

Beverly Schroll of Farmington Hills, a regular in the Fit Farmington program launched at the Farmington Farmers and Artisans Market in May, is the first participant to reach the 50-mile mark. 

To mark her achievement, she has been awarded a market basket filled with goods from market vendors.

Fit Farmington, a one-mile walk through downtown Farmington, starts and ends at the , with an average 20-30 minutes of walk time. Walkers head out at 10 a.m. on Saturdays; the Monday through Friday start time is noon. Maps of the route are on the Farmington Farmers and Artisans Market brochure, available at the market or at downtownfarmington.org.

Each day, a Fit Farmington representative leads the walk, and a punch card is provided to walkers to track their miles. Cards are to be turned in on Sept. 17. Walkers who log the most miles will be eligible for raffle prizes to be awarded at the Harvest Moon Celebration Sept. 24.

Schroll is the first person to fill out one card, with 46 punches, and start on another.

A Farmington Hills resident for over 50 years, she is widowed, has two daughters and five grandchildren. “My goal is to get as many punches as I can on my card before the September 17 deadline,” Schroll said as she headed downtown for another mile walk.

Although the program offers an alternative inclement weather site, the track at the , Schroll said she logged all her miles on the regular route. She decided to participate as another avenue for regular exercise in her efforts to maintain a healthy lifestyle. In addition to these walks, Schroll also attends a local women’s gym and swims at the in Farmington Hills.

Schroll also delivers Meals-on-Wheels, has been a member of the Farmington Art Foundation for over 40 years and recently joined the Farmington Garden Club. In addition, she has painted several porcelain dolls and plans to make special clothing for each.
