5 Things You Should Know Today
Farmington Library offers many programs for parents and children.
Welcome to the third edition of our new "Five Things" feature, which aims to help you keep up with what's going on in Farmington and Farmington Hills every day. We've got a lot to talk about, so let's get to it:
1. Library parenting programs
If you're a young parent – or you know someone who is – stop by the Farmington Community Library today and check into all they offer to help make your journey a little easier. Today alone, the offers a Baby and Me social event, and tonight, the hosting a program about effective parenting. Parenting can be overwhelming, but you've got a village here to help raise your child.
2. A Dad's dream come true
We've written about , which has been keeping area man well dressed for 30 years. Tonight, starting at 6 p.m., do your dad (or favorite man) a favor and steer him over to Northwestern Highway for a man's night out at The Shirt Box. He'll have a chance to win some nifty raffle prizes and proceeds will benefit prostate cancer awareness and education.

3. Groups doing good things
They may seem unrelated, but we think the Farmington Arts Commission, Multicultural Multiracial Community Council and Farmington Youth Assistance Board have something in common. They're all trying to make our community a better place to live. Plus, they're all meeting today. Details are on the City of Farmington Hills calendar.
4. Medical marijuana alert
The Farmington Hills Planning Commission meets tonight at 7 p.m. in and they're looking at a proposed zoning ordinance amendment that would restrict medical marijuana-related businesses, while making accomodations for caregivers, who grow the plant for their patients. This ordinance amendment has been out there a long time, and may be on its way to completion.
