Get Out: Botsford Events, Theater, Cod Toss

The Swedish Club celebrates Norwegian Independence Day on Saturday with an unusual activity.

It's another spring weekend filled with events in Farmington and Farmington Hills. Here are our picks to place on your calendar:

1. Live Theater: and Willy Wonka, Jr.

Where/When: The Producers—Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the ; Willy Wonka, Jr., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the .

Why go: Two local theater groups are offering you the chance to watch live theater, right here in our own community. Take them up on it. Willy Wonka, Jr., is suitable for children; The Producers is for older audiences.

2. Botsford Hospital Events: ,

Why go: Each of these events is important in its own way. Cancer screenings are for oral, head, neck and skin cancers. Registration is required; call 248-471-8120. The Safety and Injury Prevention Fair is a real family event with experts and exhibits on fall prevention, motorcycle safety, disaster preparedness, alcohol awareness, Dr. Paws Pet Therapy and more. You can buy a bike helmet for $6.

Why go: It's gardening season, and you're going to need some new flowers and plants. You can also divide and clear out those hostas.

Why go: Introduce your aspiring, 8- to 12-year-old soccer player to the North Farmington High School Lady Raiders. Girls will have a great time and learn some new skills.

Why go: The Cod Toss. Plus, the club is offering lots of children's events, a children's parade and delicious Norwegian desserts.
