Get Out: Dance, Market and a Parade

Farmington and Farmington Hills celebrate a long, holiday weekend.

If you're making this Memorial Day weekend a "stay-cation," you've got many options for activities – including celebrations that honor the holiday.

Where/When: , 32000 Shiawassee Rd, Farmington; tonight, 7:30 p.m.

Why go: Students will perform a variety of dances inspired by teenage life.  There will also be a poetry reading, and a Stomp style piece performed by the Farmington High School Percussion Ensemble.

Where/When: , 28600 W 11 Mile Rd, Farmington Hills; Friday, 11 a.m.

Why go: This event starts with an American Legion/VFW Honor Guard flag ceremony, rifle salute and recitation to honor both veterans and Senior Division participants who have passed in the last year. A special luncheon will follow with dancing and a live band.

Where/When: , 32900 W 13 Mile Rd, Farmington Hills; Friday, 6 p.m.

Why go: The North Farmington girls' soccer team will be having their 3rd Annual Teresa Navas Memorial Game this evening. All former players are invited out for the game, to play or not. RSVP to attend, 248-489-4164.

Where/When: , Farmington; Saturday, 9 .m.-2 p.m.

Why go: All the Miss Farmington contestants will be at the Market, there'll be some new vendors and a cooking demo with Randy Hall from The Main Squeeze. Plus, all those colorful flowers and delicious, Michigan-made products and locally grown foods.

Pricing: Free admission, after that, you're on your own.

Where/When: Starts at Mooney St & Grand River Ave., ends at in Farmington; Monday, 10 a.m.

Why go: Hosted by , this year's parade will honor long-time Post parade chair Wally Christensen and his wife, Lorraine. Come on out and say thanks to these community volunteers.
