Get Out: Garden Club, Blackthorn, Fish Fry

Blackthorn's weekend in Farmington Hills starts Thursday.

From gardening to gills, we've got five events you'll want to put on your calendar this weekend:

Where/when: , 25099 Farmington Rd., Farmington Hills; 7 p.m. Thursday.

Why go: The club meets at the Spicer House in Heritage Park. Guest speaker Janet Macunovich will share tips for practical gardening. Snacks and socializing start at 7 p.m., and the presentation will begin around 7:30 p.m.

2. Blackthorn in Concert

Where/when: , 32332 W. 12 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills; 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Why go: Irish music performed by a tight group of experienced musicians, combined with humor and a wide variety of instruments, make for a lively show.

Pricing: $19 general admission; $17 seniors and students

3. Lenten Fish Fry

Where/when: , 24040 Raphael Rd., Farmington Hills; 4:30-7:30 p.m. Friday.

Why go: The menu includes fried or baked cod dinner, jumbo shrimp dinner, clam chowder or mac 'n' cheese dinner, and you can't beat the price.

Pricing: Dinners range from $4 to $7

Where/when: , 31775 Grand River Ave., Farmington; 6:15 p.m. Friday.

Why go: An evening of bingo is always fun, and this one supports the American Legion, a service organization that gives so much to the community and to military service veterans and their families.

5. Dialogues on diversity

Where/when: , 28600 W. 11 Mile Rd., Farmington Hills; 6:30 p.m. Friday.

Why go: This evening of multicultural dance, food and discussions is a great way to continue our community conversation about diversity.
